Palliative care at home

I am wondering how I could proceed with palliative care at home as an occupational therapist.Palliative care means total care for people who can no longer be cured because of cancer, an intractable disease and so on. Recently the number of people who need palliative care at home is increasing rapidly in our community.Some patients suffer mental disease ,especially depression, as a result of Long-term hospitalization. We home visiting medical care staff should care for both physical and mental problems of patients. we should help patients have a good quality of life at home.

A MOHO(Model Of Human Occupation) seminar

I joined a MOHO (Model of Human Occupation) seminar. MOHO is one of the theories of occupational therapy to explain a person's performance,motivation,pattern and personal objectives and so on.The seminar made me realise how one's occupation is motivated. The teacher showed us MOHO by offering an explanation of patients. It made it easy to understand MOHO.

The most interesting thing I notice is that MOHO is a little like ICF(International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health International). MOHO attaches importance to an occupational therapist understanding both the physical and social environments. It is also stated in ICF. I would like to study more about MOHO .

The 300 million yen year end Jumbo Lottery (Jumbo Takarakuji)

I bought into the Jumbo lottery(Nenmatsu Jumbo Takarakuji) last December. As soon as I came back home, I checked the Internet in order to find out how could I get a charm to win the lottery. According to the information from the Internet, to win the lottery I should keep the tickets in a yellow envelope and place it on the east side of my home and if possible put an ornament of an owl near the envelope. I did everything as per the above information. Unfortunately, I didn't win the lottery for as much as I spent money on it. I spent 15000yen on it and won 11500yen. It means -3500yen. I didn't win, but I am now happy.

The internet

I regret being in front of my PC for over 5 hours. When I started to check the internet,I could not stop seeing it.I bought contact lenses at the internet shop. I know time is money. I have to use my time for something worthwhile to do besides the internet. For example, reading books, cooking and walking.

Soysause-rice with vegetables

I am very tired and exhausted everyday. Why do I get a tired feeling everyday? As I am married, I have to work as a housewife in addition to my work as a therapist.It means I have no time to take a rest in my home!! When I come back to my home around 7:30pm,I have to make dinner in a hurry. I also have to go grocery shopping.Oh, busy days aren't they!

My client told me 'you look so exhausted nowadays, what's the matter?' I answered, I have to do a lot of things when I come back my home, like making dinner, cleaning rooms and washing clothing and so on. My client said' I really understand how you get exhauseted.when I was young, I was working at an office and I also played the role of housewife. I will tell you a very easy to make but hearty dinner called Syoyu-meshi(Soy sauce and rice with vegetables.) You will make a dinner within 30mim.' This Syoyu-mesi is very delicious. I love it. Fly sliced vegetables with soy sauce and salt. Put them in a rice cooker(lay them on the rice) and push the start button of the rice cooker. This is very simle way to make a dinner. I sometimes make it. My family also likes it.I appreciate my client's recipe.

a seminar of home rehabilitation

I joined a seminar about home rehabilitation.

To my surprise, a lot of occupational therapists and physical therapists has same problems.
The problems of our our home rehabilitation therapist are as follows;

  • When should we end rehabilitation therapy services for stroke patients living at home?
  • Some of patients would not accept our suggestion about social welfare equipment.
  • Some of patients ask us to massage her/him instead of rehabilitation.
