Art therapy

This is a very popular art therapy among elderly people.It is called Etegami( a postcard with a picture) . I sometimes use it as a therapy. You can draw it very simple way with ink brush.Even if you fail drawing , the drawing seems no problem because the failing brush stroke may add nice taste for it.I sometimes use Etegami as a rehabilitation for patients who have hemiplegic hand after stroke in order to recover from palsy, exercise to handling the utensil, and adapt non dominant hand. Etegami is supposedly good for rehabilitation.

Palliative care at home

I am wondering how I could proceed with palliative care at home as an occupational therapist.Palliative care means total care for people who can no longer be cured because of cancer, an intractable disease and so on. Recently the number of people who need palliative care at home is increasing rapidly in our community.Some patients suffer mental disease ,especially depression, as a result of Long-term hospitalization. We home visiting medical care staff should care for both physical and mental problems of patients. we should help patients have a good quality of life at home.

A MOHO(Model Of Human Occupation) seminar

I joined a MOHO (Model of Human Occupation) seminar. MOHO is one of the theories of occupational therapy to explain a person's performance,motivation,pattern and personal objectives and so on.The seminar made me realise how one's occupation is motivated. The teacher showed us MOHO by offering an explanation of patients. It made it easy to understand MOHO.

The most interesting thing I notice is that MOHO is a little like ICF(International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health International). MOHO attaches importance to an occupational therapist understanding both the physical and social environments. It is also stated in ICF. I would like to study more about MOHO .

a seminar of home rehabilitation

I joined a seminar about home rehabilitation.

To my surprise, a lot of occupational therapists and physical therapists has same problems.
The problems of our our home rehabilitation therapist are as follows;

  • When should we end rehabilitation therapy services for stroke patients living at home?
  • Some of patients would not accept our suggestion about social welfare equipment.
  • Some of patients ask us to massage her/him instead of rehabilitation.
